The McDonalds LPGA Championship
is right in our backyard this weekend at Bulle Rock, and
coming up this fall, you're invited to another big
tournament at Edgmont Country Club -- one that might
give you a healthy dose of perspective when it comes to
golf.
"We're really pleased
and excited and honored to be part of the 62nd National
Blind Golfers Championship. It's going to be held here
in the fall, September 23rd through the 26th."
That's Edgmont General
Manager Pam Mariani, who says there are a number of ways
you can volunteer to help with the event.
Longtime Edgmont pro Al
Balukas has been teaching visually impaired golfers for
many years and is still energized by their enjoyment of
the game, like the young woman who recently came to him
for her first lesson:
"Never played golf.
There she was, visually impaired, hitting the golf ball
every time. It was the most exciting day for her
that she's had in a long time."
Balukas says one of
golf's charms is that you are challenging yourself and
the golf course and that journey is there for all of us
to enjoy whether you can see the ball or not.
